Jake came on live to talk about behind the scenes and answer questions about his cover. He really took his time on releasing the cover.
He said he had 2-3 options for the song and he sang all of them but he landed on ‘I don’t think I’m okay” because of the meaningful message of the song that he could relate to a lot and he felt it suited him best and he wanted to convey this color. The lyrics made him feel a lot of emotions and be thought a lot of people could relate to it. He said the most important part is at the end, to know that we all go through hard times, but it’s okay to not be okay. It’s a process it’s okay to feel those emotions.
He recorded the song before shooting the video but after the video was done he rerecorded the song a few times until he was satisfied, because he wanted the mood to match perfectly in the visuals and vocals. The mood-film like cuts in the video was also his idea, he directed the vibe of the video. He wanted the visuals to be warm, with natural lighting. He initially wanted to film outside because the nature was like Australia, but it was really cold and they had 1 day to film so he switched to inside.
He said he learned a lot while doing this cover, through singing the whole song he knows more about his vocal direction. In Enhypen songs he needs to focus on his own parts but singing a whole song he felt like it should be a story with a beginning and end.
Jake said he realised that it’s important and healing to share your feelings openly even if they are not 100% positive. There were many things that happened in a year and he felt pressure before to only show the perfect and bright side of him but as he got closer to engenes and talking to them he realized he doesn’thave to only show his bright side but it’s okay to show other sides as there are many people who undeestand him and sympathize with him. (He also mentioned wanting to tour and do concerts again.)
Jake showed the song cover to Heeseung first for his feedback they were abroad and he played it for him in the car. Hee always compliments his voice it raises his confidence.
He said he really feels the supporting presence of fans and he’s glad that he can show and share these things with us. He knows there are a lot of people who like his voice and he will be singing a lot more. He said he’ll never be satisfied and will try harder to become better so stay tuned.
